Wow, I am watching the Facebook Places announcement right now and did not expect them to announce partnerships with Foursquare, Gowalla & Yelp. Personally, I think that was “nice” of Facebook to include them since they are basically copying their ideas. But from a business perspective, I’m not sure I see the point of partnering with these companies since they basically do not offer anything that unique that Facebook couldn’t offer themselves and immediately crush these companies with their 500 million strong userbase. So it will be interesting to see how long these companies remain as “partners” before Facebook just overwhelms them unless they can come up with more innovative features that catch on before Facebook ends up stealing those as well…
